Washer And Dryer Repair - Appliance Repair Questions
1.00Is the apartment maintenance responsible for cleaning the dryer vent?
Q.I don't really have any money at the moment because I bought a washer and dryer and it was delivered today. My dryer is taking over 2 hours to dry clothes... This is the first time I've ever had a washer/dryer hooked up in these apartments so are they responsible for keeping the vents usable for each tenant? I would try to do it myself, but I don't think they would appreciate me climbing on their roof.
A.You need to take this to the Apartment manager and see what they can do. You should be cleaning your own dryer lent trap everytime you use it to prevent fire.
1.00Moving washer and dryer in basement remodel?
Q.We are thinking about moving the washer and dryer in our basement to a more logical spot. This would mean running our pex piping = not a big deal. My concern is more for the dryer - how long can the dryer vent hose be? Ours would likely need to be about 16 feet long to go up the ceiling and back out to the hole that's already there venting outside.
Thanks, George. That's what I figured. Much appreciated.
A.If you use solid vent pipe (not the flex stuff) you will be ok.
Just clean it out once a year.
1.00Help to resolve Kenmore dryer problem in India?
Q.I got Kenmore washer and dryer from USA to India. Washer worked but dryer did n't.. A local electrician tried his best to resolve the problem with no success. Does anyone has any suggestion how to fix this problem ?
A.US washers normally run on 120 Volts. The 50 or 60 Hz probably has no significant effect.
However the dryer would normally run on a 220 Volts four wire circuit. Its probably your electrical circuit that may not have enough power to support it, a tripped circuit or unless you are wiring it wrong. If still no luck you may want to try the following website with full information:

1.00Can i vent my dryer to the water heater in the garage?
Q.I bought a new washer and dryer over the summer and recently noticed some problems with mold in the garage. i did a some research and looking around in my garage, i found out that the installers never installed a vent for the dryer to let the moist air escape the garage.
my question is, is the bigger pipe in the middle of my water heater a vent to the exterior? if so, can i add a T adapter, or whatever you call it, and vent my dryer through there? any and all help is greatly appreciated.
A.No, the dryer need to be vented separately. The water heater vent or flue should not be used for any other purpose.
Doing what you suggest could cause a fire.
Just install a seperate vent for the dryer
1.00Gas clothes dryer not drying help please?
Q.I have a 2004 year Kenmore gas dryer (and washer) front load. The washer is washing (and spinning) fine. The dyer is taking longer and longer to dry. Medium heat 80-90 minutes clothes still wet (not dripping but not close to dry). High heat 60 minutes still damp. Earlier clothes were toast in high heat 30 minutes. I keep the lint tray clean, and last week professionally got my dryer vent cleaned. No improvement. Its only 5 years old. Please advise, serious answers only.
A.Thermol switch may be bad
1.00Can a washer/dryer combo be hooked up to water heater plumbing?
Q.I live in a 600 sq foot condo. Am looking at a ventless washer/dryer combo. My problem is where I can hook it up to water? Can it go in the same closet as the water heater? Or would I have to redo plumbing and put in my bedroom closet?
Oh - also where would it drain.....?
A.Hello Jovi:
If it will fit into the water heater closet you can put it there. If you have a gas water heater, you will need to ensure that there is adequate ventilation for combustion air (usually outside air) and an exhaust fan as well.
You could tie the waste from the washer/dryer to your bathroom waste line, or the kitchen waste line. If either of these lines are close to your water heater closet, you should be OK. If not, you may have to re-think this project. Running water line is not difficult for a trained plumber. The new PEX product makes it quite easy, and PEX is rated for hot or cold water.

Washer And Dryer Repair
When it comes to dryer repair, you can avoid the need for regular repairs by keeping the appliance clean and free of lint, and ensuring that the dryer is always properly vented. Never use plastic venting hose to prevent the danger of a fire, and get your vent hose cleaned professionally by a dryer repair service to eliminate any lint accumulation. Common dryer repair problems include a dryer that won't turn on, heats insufficiently or not at all, does not tumble, over heats or makes a lot of noise. In case of a dryer that doesn't work at all, there may not be a lot you can do. In case of a electric dryer, check the power supply to the unit by testing the power receptacle with a voltage tester or an electric appliance. If there is no power to the receptacle, look for a blown fuse or circuit breaker. If there is power to the receptacle, then look to see if the power cord is functioning properly. In case of a gas dryer, make sure that the gas supply to the appliance is turned on by checking the valve at the back of the dryer. Also, double check the main gas supply connection in the house. If your dryer has an electronic ignition, then you may have an ignition problem that must be fixed by a gas dryer repair service.
If your dryer doesn't tumble or makes a lot of noise, check the interior of the drum to see if there are any objects that have become loose. A noisy dryer can also be caused by a worn out drum belt or motor bearings, a defective support roller or a faulty idler pulley. If the dryer continues to run, but there is no tumbling, there may be a fault with the belt, motor or switch. Call a dryer repair service immediately. If you can smell natural gas close to the dryer, don't turn on any electrical switches or light matches. Shut off the gas valve, and open all doors and windows to let the smell of gas out. Turn off the main gas supply connection, and then call your gas supplier from outside the house. If your drier takes long to dry, then it could be a blockage of the dryer vent. Clean the lint trap, and make sure that the dryer isn't located too close to the valve. The air duct should have enough space, and there should be no blockages in its path.
Washing machine repairs are a little easier to undertake, because it has a simple functioning. If your washer doesn't run, then simple washer repairs will involve checking to see if the machine is receiving enough power. If the machine stops midway, but continues to hum, then there may be a trip in the overload protector. Take out some pieces of clothing from the machine, and then restart. Make sure that the power receptacle is functioning properly, and that the washer lid is completely shut. You may even have to replace the cord if the main power receptacle seems to be functioning properly. If none of these work, then it could be a problem with the controls.
